Fox Lake is a Denver-based quartet blending nu metal, metalcore, and hardcore into a sound that’s raw, aggressive, and deeply personal. Their new album New World Heat (MNRK Heavy) expands on the band’s energy and message, tackling social and moral issues without being overtly political. Vocalist Nathan Johnson, guitarist Brandon Kemp, and bassist Zach Swafford didn’t plan to build a serious project—it started as a fun outlet—but their chemistry and vision quickly took hold.
Following their debut Silence & Violence and Fear & Loathing EP, New World Heat delivers a more refined mix of hardcore energy and nu metal edge, with less rap and more focused songwriting. Tracks like “Savior,” “Freestyle,” and “Headshot” reflect on social justice, industry corruption, and genre defiance. Guests from Avoid, Silent Planet, Eyes of Salt, and Mug Shot bring added punch.
Even their short jazz-infused instrumentals—like “Halftime”—reveal the band’s versatility, with Nathan showcasing his background as a trained jazz pianist. Between in-store successes, a growing fanbase, and their honest approach to songwriting, Fox Lake is carving out a lane that doesn’t conform—and they’re proud of that.
Their message: be loud, be real, and don’t play it safe.
